Prevention is the best way to deal with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, herpes, trichomonas and human immunodeficiency disorder (HIV) which are more prevalent now than ever before. STD’s can affect anyone; even a newborn baby is susceptible if the mother is infected. STD’s can be transmitted through intimate contact and non-intimate contact. During the initial phases a person may not experience symptoms although they are contagious and the STD can be passed on to a sexual partner and can in some cases cause other health problems such as cervical cancer, pelvic inflammatory disease and genital warts in women. Some external symptoms of STD’s are skin lesions, inflammation of lymph nodes, genital redness, swelling, itching, discharge or ulceration and fatigue.
