Something Happened on the Way to My Life
There you are going along…going to work, going to school, taking care of your daily duties, plans for the weekends, etc. You are taking care of business or so it seems and BAM! out of the blue some sort of volcanic eruption occurs…not anything that you expected! It could be the news of a loved one being diagnosed with cancer…”She was just fine when I talked to him yesterday!” A car hits you…”Where did he come from?” Your spouse or significant other requests some “time-out.” Time-Out? You ask…what the heck is “Time-Out?”
Something Happens…that alters the way life has been for you. Something Happens that screams Fear at you.
Something Happens that jolts you out of just existing and into living.
Something Happens that makes you say, ”Why is this happening to ME?
Whether you believe that you choose your life or you just ended up on Planet Earth doesn’t really matter. What matters is whether or not you have not been living your life according to your Path. Everyone has one…a Path…a Journey…his or her Purpose. Most of us spend our lives trying to figure out what that Purpose is. If we struggle with it, it takes longer. If we struggle with it, it becomes something less than what we’d hoped for. Struggle occurs when we lace our Life Force energy with negative emotions. And eventually, our own personal tsunami will hit.
Is this “tsunami” something that simply occurs because we haven’t been on our “Life’s Path?”
No, actually, when you go back and think about all the little tidal waves you’ve been hit with, the ones you haven’t paid much attention to, you will most likely see a pattern. For example, if you haven’t been paying attention to how little your partner has NOT been paying attention to you…all the times he/she used work or a new hobby to stay away from home or even work at home more and to be “busy” doing something all the time and then all of a sudden they want a separation or divorce…well, that’s your tsunami. You didn’t pay attention to the ripples that were building over the years.
Or let’s say you’ve just been diagnosed with some sort of tumor, probably not malignant, but it has to come out. And that tumor HAPPENS to be in your head! Ouch! What? You’re going to open up my head?? Yes, indeedy! And that’s just what happened to me 15 years ago! (I always said I had to “get hit over the head to get ‘it’”). And my other smaller tidal waves? What were they you ask? I can only guess but maybe the fact that my husband and I didn’t have children for the first 8 years of our marriage was telling me something or the fact that we had never even discussed having children! Or that we had been going through life living up to everyone else’s expectations and not our own. Or that we never had really bonded in the first place! The tumor was the ultimate wake-up call that “THIS MARRIAGE ISN’T WORKING!” And not only was the marriage not working but MY life and HIS life weren’t working…we were just too programmed from our parochial upbringing and programming to see any differently. We weren’t operating from spirit.
Let’s say, however, that you have been one of those fortunate ones whose Life Purpose has been well defined and you had no ego trips trying to tell you that you shouldn’t pursue it, then you are coming from your spirit. You know you’re coming from Spirit when life starts to flow. Things and people and situations start showing up in your life…and I’m talking GOOD things, good people, and good situations!
How do I know when I’m coming from my spirit? How do I know if I’ve evolved enough to surrender my ego-like ways?
I was having this discussion with a like-minded colleague one day while going to lunch. I told her that the way it started for me was parking spaces started showing up. “Parking spaces?” she responded with a high pitched voice. “What are you talking about?”
I said that I would get parking spaces closer to the building I needed to get to, or I instinctively knew that as I drove down a particular row that a parking space would open up for me. My friend retorted by saying that they just don’t “appear.” And to that I said, “Yes, they do and it happens everyday I give up my ego!
Another friend of mine who was even more evolved said she would get all the green lights going to work. When I heard this, I knew I was onto something. And so I tried it out even further.
One day while waiting in line at a department store, I noticed a bra hanging from the discarded clothes rack. I “sized” it up and knew it would fit. From the looks of it it seemed to be of very good quality. I said to myself, “Ten bucks. I’ll buy it for ten bucks.” With that I beckoned an idle sales clerk as to the size and price of the bra. She responded with the size ( mine ) and she said, “It’s on sale for $9.99.” “SOLD!” I said. And I smiled upward.
Last Christmas I was with a group of girls from work. The neighborhood stores were having a “Girls Night Out” event. You went from store to store which was adorned in holiday trimmings and were greeted with goodies, music, beverages and well wishers. Everyone had their personal information on a sheet of paper and had to have each shop keeper sign it as an indication you had visited their store that night. The winner won gift certificates, holiday wreaths, candles, etc. I thought to myself…”What are the odds I’d win?” I envisioned me winning…they would surely call me up the next day! I tamed my exuberance by coming back down to earth and having a free coffee with my friends. Days went by…even a week…no call…surely I had been fantasizing.
Then…you guessed it…one of the shop keepers called introducing herself saying I had won all the goodies from “Girls Night Out!” Too funny, I thought…I was like a kid in a candy store. I looked up and smiled.
Now, you say, “Okay, you get lucky every so often.” “Yes, I do!” And I keep getting luckier and luckier. Healthier people are coming into my life…job offers that are more “me” than the ones I struggled with in the past. All this adds to a much more “whole” me because I am attracting that which I am.
So, my Friends, the bottom line here is that it’s much easier to pay attention to the little ripples, the waves that come in and splash gently up against you once in a while, by saying, “Get on track!” “Start living YOUR life!” It’s much harder to have to pick up all the debris from your tsunami, that is, the illness, the divorce, the job loss, the child gone astray, or the financial upheaval. The lesson here is: Don’t wait until the big one hits…there are plenty of signs along the way.

New Year Intentions!
With the beginning of the year always comes an opportunity for a new start and some resolutions/intentions. So as we fine tune our intentions for this year, let’s utilize the Law of Attraction which states that like energies attract one another. Here are a couple suggestions to enhance results:
Make your resolution/intention positive: ex. Instead of Lose weight, create an intention to increase health and focus on specific actions that would increase health
Create a clear picture of how you would look living your intention. The more colorful, detailed and brilliant the better–Can Create a Vision Board (collection of actual pictures cut from magazines or clear visual in the mind)
KNOW How would you FEEL if the intention were to come true. Ex.” If I were at my ideal weight I would be happier.”
Ignite your feeling (ex. happiness) whenever you can but especially when you are doing something health enhancing or when you are visualizing your intention. In other words just Practice Feeling Happy for no reason or ANY reason–just because you decide it!
Practice grace & unconditional love towards yourself when your choices don’t support your intention and then choose again
Reward & praise yourself with every movement/practice that supports your intention
Be grateful for your intention AS IF it were already manifested! This helps us stay out of “want–don’t have” energy and utilizes the energy of gratitude & trust–”it’s already in motion and on it’s way!”
Make sure to get balanced/adjusted for your intentions!
My intention that I hold and am already grateful for is that we are all gracefully, lovingly and joyously journeying towards expressing optimal health as we uncover the truth of who we are. What an amazing & fun year 2010 WAS, don’t you agree??!!!

Reiki: How it Works
How does it work?
Reiki restores and balances one’s physical, mental, and emotional energies. It puts one’s physical body in the best condition to promote healing.
Why does it work?
The reason that Reiki works is that it connects the universal life force energy with the body’s innate (inborn) powers of healing. Reiki also induces the relaxation response and puts the body in the best condition for healing. And we know that it is the body that eventually heals itself. The body’s innate intelligence regulates the amount of Reiki that one receives and where it goes so one cannot give or receive too much Reiki.
What can I expect?
The session will begin with a quick discussion about Reiki and the process. You will lay on the massage table or sit in a chair and I will use my hands to send energy into your body by moving my palms from the top of your head to your feet. My hands will generally be 2-4” above your body and you will feel nothing but a little heat. Occasionally, particularly at the feet, I will place my hands directly on your skin or clothing. Most likely, you will fall asleep and feel refreshed and relaxed when you wake up.
Will it interfere with my medical treatments?
No. Reiki speeds up the process of healing and can be used in conjunction with many medical technologies, and therapies, as well as psychological counseling, to bring about healing. It is not a substitute for medical care.

Let’s Choose Celebration!
So, which are better, celebrations or regrets? How are your New Year’s resolutions? Planning for next year? Reviewing your progress from last year? A quick, personal survey will reveal the answer.
1. List your celebrations. Let’s think bigger than birthdays and anniversaries. Think about goals achieved, promises kept, or positive relationships maintained.
2. List your regrets. Again – let’s get deeper than forgot my kids school lunch today, or running out of gas. Think about poor financial decisions, an unforgiven act, relationships destroyed by our own pride.
3. Which feels better, the celebrations or regrets?
4. Which creates a more positive sense of self worth?
Okay, not difficult, the celebrations win! Here is the secret: You Can Choose! Yep, in any situation life brings you can choose to create celebrations or regrets. I know, you are thinking “wait a minute – I don’t choose when people die, or get divorced” and that is true. You can, however, choose how you are going to react to those life situations.
Let’s get back to resolutions. If weight loss is your goal this year, lets re-spin it and focus on creating opportunities to celebrate. For example:
1. You are celebrating the birthday of a close friend or relative, and you are going out to eat. Is this celebration about you or them? Them, right? So, what you choose to eat has no bearing on whether that person is celebrated, correct? Making positive choices in a restaurant will create a celebration of your own.
2. When you grocery shop, is going down the cookie/chip aisle absolutely necessary? You may think ”but my kids need….” Really, do they? Or, is your example setting them up for regrets later? Can your decisions in the grocery store create celebrations for your family? Better health, less doctor bills, lowering weight?
3. When you make the choice to exercise, but only do it once per week. Is this the choice of celebration or regret? If your goal is weight loss, is that extra half hour of sleep creating a celebration or regret?
Let’s start celebrating the self esteem gained by the positive decisions instead of focusing on all of the weight that is going to be lost. Yes, that will happen! Let’s focus on the gain of positive self-image and self-worth instead of the “will-power” necessary to get the job done. When you are making positive choices and celebrating the little steps along the way, will power is not necessary. Positive choices will become your new habit and your life will become one big celebration!

Past Lives
Could you have lived before? The idea of reincarnation is based on the premise that we are a soul inhabiting a physical body for our sojourn on earth. When the body dies, the soul leaves and returns to the astral plane. The soul processes its lifetime before moving on to another body and another incarnation. The theory of reincarnation originated in the East where it is an integral part of life, where death is celebrated as a step forward for the soul. In the late 1800s, theosophists introduced this concept to the West. In the 1940s, Edgar Cayce began doing past life readings, demonstrating that reincarnation was possible.
How can you find out if you have had a past life? Well, most likely everyone has had a past lifetime. There are several ways to investigate a past lifetime. There are three main methods to obtaining information about past lives.
A) Spontaneous recall
This occurs without any effort on your part, and is usually triggered by some person, place or event. For example, you may visit a foreign country for the first time, and be flooded by memories and a familiar feeling. You may visit a battleground, and have the feeling that you fought in it! Meeting a person for the first time and feeling you have known them your whole life is another example of spontaneous recall. This type of recall is commonly referred to as déjà vu (the French term for already seen). A déjà vu experience leaves someone feeling like, “I must have been here before,” or “I surely must have met this person before.”
B) Past life regression
Another way to access past life information is through past life regression therapy. A facilitator trained in hypnotherapy, perhaps with a background in psychology or psychiatry, puts the requester under hypnosis using relaxation techniques, guided visualization, and certain words or phrases. The facilitator then directs her to the area of focus. A person may choose any type of focus for the session, such as understanding the root of a trauma, a lesson he is now encountering, or the reason she is drawn to a particular country. Once in this alpha state, the subject can access key information to initiate deep healing.
Everyone has different experiences during a past life regression session. Some observe the past life; others relive it. Past lives may be experienced as images or as sensory impressions. Some people have gone into spontaneous regression, triggered by an event Or object. For example, a visit to a battle site may trigger a flood of memories from a past life as a soldier.
Past life regression may help release pent-up feelings, break patterns, and reveal addictions. Through past life regression, we see the existence of the soul—separate from our body—and that we are eternal. By becoming aware of the consequences of our actions, we see the realization of karma, that our life is the result of cumulative intentions and actions.
C) Past life readings
The records of our past lives are stored in the Akashic Library, a nonphysical compilation of every thought, deed, and action of every soul since the beginning of time. One way to retrieve past life information is through a disciplined mind—one able to quiet the conscious mind and move within to the subconscious mind. One such mind was Edgar Cayce (1877–1945), who was known as the “sleeping prophet” because he was able put his conscious mind to sleep and retrieve past life information for individuals through his subconscious mind.
A past life reading is accessed and reported by a team of two people, the conductor and the intuitive reporter. (A past life crossing report, also available, describes a lifetime shared by two people, making a connection between past and present interactions.) The conductor leads the intuitive reporter into a trance-like state where the conscious mind is asleep, then repeats the name of the person requesting the profile.
Based on the vibration of the requester’s name, the reporter accesses and relates only the past life that is most pertinent to the present one. This is usually a lifetime where the requester held similar thoughts and attitudes. The report reveals detailed information about the past life, the period, the country, and the requester’s name in that life. It then
explains the significance of the past life experiences to the present. This key to growth allows us to see the similarities in karma so that we can learn and evolve beyond the past lifetime. Otherwise, we would repeat the same mistakes and impose on ourselves the same limitations that slow the growth of our soul.
How does having a past life affect your life today? The subconscious mind holds all the memories from past life experiences. Therefore, we are always being influenced by actions and thoughts from our past lives. The present conditions of our lifetime were formed based on our thoughts and attitudes formed during past lives. Our actions, both good and bad, explain our good fortune, or our sufferings. This is what may be termed “karma” which is the idea that what you sow, either in this life, or your past lives, you will reap. Many of our relationships have their roots in past lives, where we were with certain people. To understand the dynamics of our relationships, we need only to look at the past. For example, if you find yourself in an abusive relationship, perhaps in the past lifetime you were the abuser.
What are the reasons for finding out if you have had a past life? In order to understand the present, we must understand the past. To understand our thinking patterns, our relationships, and the conditions of our life, we need only to look at our past lives. A past life reading can reveal to you gifts and talents that you accrued in the past, as well as areas of weakness. People can understand why they suffer from phobias. For example, a person who is afraid of the water may have drowned in a past life. If you suffer from negative thinking, this may be due to negative thoughts accumulated during a past lifetime. A strong attraction to someone may also be understood through an examination of the past. These readings can be extremely helpful when as person is at a crossroads in their life and not sure which direction to go. Rather than repeating the past, the person can choose something different with the aid of a reading. Examining the karma we developed in past lives helps us understand the choices our soul made for this life. Souls choose family, period, place and date of birth, and gender based on what offers the greatest opportunity for learning. A past life in which you abused your freedom may explain why you were born in a communist country, with no personal freedom. Perhaps, generous in a past lifetime, you were born into a rich family with many privileges in this lifetime.

Meditation for Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity
Many people today, especially younger people, are being labeled as having a deficit of attention, often with hyperactivity. This is called either Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). This diagnosis is so prevalent in our culture that many consider it to be an epidemic. In reality, we cannot have a deficit of attention because the mechanics of the mind are the same for all of us in much the same way that the physiology of the body is essentially the same.
What can happen is that the ability to hold the attention where we choose for it to be can be weakened, in some cases to the point of apparent helplessness. This leads to the attention jumping from one thing to another without the ability to follow through effectively. This can also be displayed as an inability to sit physically still, which is an outer expression of the scattered mind. This can affect not only the person experiencing the scattered mind, but often those he or she is in contact with. Fortunately, just as with weakened muscles of the body, we can do exercises for the mind that build our ability to control the attention and stay focused on the project at hand.
One type of mind exercise that has been used successfully for thousands of years is meditation. Few would argue the effectiveness of this practice in bettering the life of the practitioner, but often we do not realize that the foundation of meditation is the focused mind, which replaces the scattered mind over time.
To begin a meditation practice, first sit in a comfortable position keeping the spine long and vertical. Lying down is not recommended, especially when starting out, because of the ease of slipping into sleep. Next, focus your attention on the breath. Feel the breath as it enters and leaves the body. Any time that the attention leaves this experience, bring it back. It doesn’t matter how often you must do this, only that you do it each time. As you experience your mind becoming focused and calm, begin listening to the mind paying close attention to any gaps between your thoughts. It is these quiet moments that we expand over time. If you find yourself wandering, bring your attention back to the breath.
Five minutes a day is sufficient to start, eventually working up to about fifteen to thirty minutes daily.

Energy Healing for Women’s Empowerment
In health care when we talk about Energy Healing and Holistic medicine what we mean is a conscious or intuitive approach to human beings. We consider any illness, health issue, crisis or transition as an opportunity for healing. Rather than consider these as inconveniences on our forward trajectory, each provides a critical interruption, an opportunity to listen to our bodies and our inner journey.
Energy Healing addresses all parts of the individual, not just the physical aspect of a person where manifested illnesses are most apparent. Energy Healing can empower women through the process of uncovering her own unique life-purpose, connecting her innate wisdom and choosing what healing approaches best serve her situation.
Energy Healing accesses a larger, greater perspective than the focused physical and mental state that we are usually living in as human beings. High vibrational energies are accessed and focused through the healer to impact the physical body and energy fields of the client. Both healer and client may feel a sense of expansion, well-being, and inspiration. The sessions are approximately one hour in length. They are performed in a quiet room with the client fully clothed and the lights low. The healer may talk or meditate with the client or lightly touch the body and surrounding energy field, including the energy centers (chakras). The client may feel a sense of relaxation. Some clients experience a sense of well-being or insight.
In my practice we offer healing sessions with Certified EnergyTouch Healers. The EnergyTouch work is unique among energy healing modalities because it accesses levels of very high and fine vibration. EnergyTouch Healing works outside the usual time-space continuum and affects cellular function. Some conditions may be reversed that were previously thought to be incurable. EnergyTouch is effective in treating a variety of issues including:
Menopause
Osteoporosis
Pelvic Pain
Breast Disease
PMS
Thyroid Diseases
Fibroids
Fibromyalgia
Fatigue Disorders
Sexual Function
Infertility
Migraines and Headaches
Urinary Issues
Fibrocystic Breasts
Sinus Problems
Hair Loss
Depression
Flu and Viral Illness
Anxiety
Our WomanCare Integrated Healing Team works to design a program of healing unique for each woman and her situation. In addition to EnergyTouch Healing, we use herbs, botanicals, vitamins; we also use medical technologies (and medical arts like surgery) when called for. We have seen tremendous growth and healing for women through surgeries, during menopause, for permanent weight loss for hormonal imbalances, PMS and for many other issues.
The Key is discovering with the patient what she wants and needs from all levels of her being.

How can you use the disruption of menopause for Empowerment?
Every illness, health issue, crisis or transition, such as menopause, is an opportunity for healing. Rather than consider this as inconvenience, it can provide a critical interruption; an opportunity to listen to your body and your inner journey. We are all on a journey in this lifetime; by paying attention to your inner growth, it quickens and is enhanced. When you do not pay attention, your growth is stunted and may manifest as physical, emotional or mental illness. Imbalance, illness, and transition provide a doorway back into your self.
Midlife and menopause changes are unique because they are often profound and so unexpected. As healthy adult women, we do not expect to have such disruption in our physical, mental, and emotional bodies. Some women feel like they are “not themselves” as they experience sleep disruption, hot flashes, labile emotions and personality changes. From a purely physiologic standpoint, the ovaries are beginning to decrease their functions of producing hormones and ovulating. This transition is rarely smooth. From an energetic standpoint, a woman experiences major shifts in the auric field, energy templates, and chakra systems that support the body. It is difficult to imagine empowerment when there is so much disruption going on.
The gift of this transition, if we pay attention, is to experience the voice of the Wise Woman as she begins to make herself known within us. There is a level of consciousness that presents itself with each life stage transition we pass through: birth, puberty, childbearing, menopause, death. The menopause Wise Woman consciousness is a deep wisdom and it grows from within. It grows through the spaces that are made when our usual patterns are disrupted: our sleep patterns, our energy patterns, our thought patterns. We do not have to earn this wisdom, it comes quite naturally. All we have to do is listen and allow.
How do we listen or even consider empowerment when there are changes happening on so many levels? The first step is to acknowledge that this is a time of great change and learning. The old patterns of daily living, thinking, and coping may be outmoded at this time. Gentleness with yourself is important. Next, develop a plan for moving through this transition with grace. Be flexible with your plan.
Guidelines for an empowerment plan through midlife/menopause:
Physical: First, get as comfortable as you can. It is difficult to think about any other aspects of transition when you are having symptoms, and are perhaps sleep deprived.
- A holistic practitioner can help with remedies for sleep, hot flashes, mental clarity and other symptoms. These may include dietary changes, supplements, herbals, acupuncture, and natural bioidentical hormones.
- Include exercise in your daily routine, especially an activity like yoga, tai chi or stretching for developing and maintaining strength, flexibility and inner connection and mindfulness.
- Re-evaluate your diet and supplements to be sure you are supporting yourself nutritionally, as our needs change during this transition.
Spiritual/Energetic: Strengthen your connection to inner wisdom. Evaluate your choices about life and health based on this inner guidance.
- Take time to stop and meditate at least 5-10 minutes twice a day for relief from mind chatter and an opportunity to listen within. Take mini breaks during the day to breathe consciously for one minute.
- Acknowledge 5 things you are grateful for each day. This will attract more gratifying things into your life.
- Schedule an energy healing to support your transition and bring more alignment on the physical, emotional and energetic levels.
Mind/Emotions: Listen to your emotions as guidance, and choose thought patterns that support you.
- Connect with support that is healthy for you: friends, family, a support group, health practitioner, counseling. Be aware that your support may come from places or people other than those we usually count on. As we change, those around us may have to adjust, too.
- Educate yourself about the changes you are experiencing through reading, seminars, discussions with your health care provider.
- Evaluate everything you hear/experience through your inner guidance and emotions, to be sure it resonates for you. Be open to changing your mind, as the Wise Woman may have a new perspective.
Menopause is a time of great change for women. It is a transition that impacts your physical and emotional function, sometimes bringing great challenges. It is also a transition that brings a wealth of wisdom and fulfillment if you take the time to listen within. With attention to self care and nurturing, this can be a highly rewarding time of life.

My greatest blessing in this last year has been the opportunity to use Energy Therapy with cancer patients.
As an Energy Therapist my work focuses in the energy field that surrounds the body and inter-penetrates the body, also known as the Auric Field. The primary intention of this work is to resolve stagnated or congested energy configurations before they can manifest in the physical body or in life circumstances as physical or emotional dis-ease. As we use light touch to clear the energetic congestion, we allow fresh life force to flow into areas previously blocked, thereby renewing health on every level: physically, emotionally and spiritually. The difference is often felt immediately.
These last several months working with a few dozen cancer patients I noticed some things that seem to be particular to that population and might be of some help if you or someone in your life has received a cancer diagnosis.
When there is serious illness, the focus is almost exclusively on treating the body part or system. Indeed we are fortunate that medical advances offer hope and success for so many diseases. However in the urgency and complexity of medical treatment, the personhood of the terrified client can be left unattended or overlooked.
One woman, newly diagnosed, told me, I feel just sucked into this whole vortex of tests, drugs, scary treatments, and people who don’t even know me telling me what to do, telling me what my life will be.
She went on to say, And telling people is hard, too. I’m worried that those people will forever after look at me and see ‘cancer’ instead of seeing me.
In the specialized focus of medicine so often the patient can feel brushed aside or lost-even to themselves. This is a commonly reported experience. Our opportunity is clear; more is needed than traditional medicine can provide. Here is where the complementary therapies are being integrated into the Healing Plan.
At the beginning of a session I ask the patient, What is this like for you?
And so often they pause, surprised, and with a wave of emotion say, No one has asked me that.
That first question is my invitation to bring all parts of the self, not just the compliance and the courage (being a ‘good patient’), but everything-the fears, despair, hopefulness or hopelessness, reluctance to ask for support, embarrassment, sometimes even things they cannot reveal with their family. Being present with whatever is here in the moment is the beginning of the client reclaiming themselves.
I have developed two vital tracks or two ways of working with clients on this special healing journey:
Providing a Safe Container to receive and see the unique essence of each person and help them stay centered while they navigate these rough waters. I use a lot of guided imagery to reinforce the experience of safety, groundedness and empowerment. One patient told me, This is the one treatment I look forward to, I am always happy on Tuesdays when I’m coming to see you.
I make sure to use techniques they can use at home.
Sessions are directed by the needs of each individual. Sometimes we might meditate or pray together, we may laugh and cry and talk, or spend the entire hour doing relaxation. I use soothing music and organic aromatherapy to invite all the senses to participate in the deeply relaxing experience. Clients report immediately feeling deep relaxation, inner peace and a sense of well-being.
He was close to giving up. A gentleman in his fifties, ‘Juan’, was exhausted and in constant pain. During chemo treatments some of his fellow patients talked about their second and third recurrences. ‘Juan’ said, What’s the point of all this fighting? It’s so hard, I’m so tired-Why fight it if I’m just coming back in two years to go through all this again?
I acknowledged that those are their stories, and invited him to write his story. He gasped, and through his tears said, That’s right, how did I forget! Those are their stories. Yes, What’s my story?
In that moment, ‘Juan’ came back into possession of the authorship of his recovery, and of his life.
And as one client summed it up– Those other treatments are for the cancer, this treatment is for me!
Assisting the Physical Healing by restructuring any aspects of the body or field that have been depleted or damaged in the course of surgery, strong medicines, radiation or complications. The energy work helps rebuild, balance and charge the field and each of the energy centers. In this model since the energy field precedes the physical body, then bringing the field back into health and balance hastens the physical recovery. Every session allows the client to actively refresh the life force flowing through the body and energy field. The innate healing intelligence of the body is activated. Patients report feeling much stronger as a result of sessions and notice reductions or even elimination of side effects. Sometimes surprising things happen.
‘Maggie’ was brought to me as a last resort. In her 80′s, she was so depleted and despondent that they weren’t sure she was strong enough to continue treatment. When I met her she stared down at the ground, unfocused, no eye contact, completely unresponsive. One hour later at the end of the first session she looked me in the eye and said, Thank you dear, that was lovely.
After another session or two she was walking without assistance, smiling and initiating conversations. In addition, to the doctors’ surprise and satisfaction her tumor reduced and she has completed her treatment.
Any illness can wind up being a pivot point in life. The challenges and rewards exist on all levels of the bodymind. Often the doctors can provide the cure, but only the client can provide the healing.
I am so very grateful to do this work and to always leave room for all possibilities.
Linda McCabe also sees clients in her private practice in Lincoln Square in Chicago. For more information about Linda’s work, click here for her full profile.

With Mother’s day around the corner many of us are beginning to make brunch, lunch, dinner reservations at greatly inflated prices for our Ma Dear. This year why not try something a little different. Here are some suggestions that will de-stress, energize, and uplift your mother.
- Try a Yoga class, Yoga will help to create balance of the body mind and spirit. Establishing a daily practice of Yoga will yield benefits such as flexibility, health and mental clarity. Recent research has shown it to be of great help in the treatment of heart conditions, asthma, back pain, arthritis, anxiety, migraines, insomnia obesity and diabetes just to name of few.
- Couples massage, One of the hottest services in the spa industry is couples massage (not just for lovers). Two people are massaged in the same room, at the same time, by two different therapists. Some larger spas and resorts have elaborate amenities for couples such as fireplaces, pedicure chairs, steam showers and lounging beds where you and your mother can relax together after your treatments.
- Hire a personnel Chef, which will come to your home and prepare your Mother’s day meal based on your needs and personal preference. The chef typically purchases all the ingredients, prepares the meal, and cleans up after dinner. The meal is usually prepared prior to arriving at your home, but the chef will add the finishing touches on the meal upon arrival. Your gourmet meal is usually served as if dining at a seven star restaurant. The only work that you need to do is the write the check.
Make this Mother’s day a celebration of regeneration; start your mom on a path toward health, happiness, balance, and wholeness. I’am sure she will appreciate the thoughtfulness you have invested to make this a special day for her.

Here is a quick little meditation.
Note: The ocean is used in this meditation because of the sea salt and the gently action of the waves. The third eye is in between the eyebrows where the skull is the thinnest and the sunlight can move into the area of the pituitary gland. This gland is called ‘The Master Gland’ and regulates the secretion of the thyroid, adrenal and reproductive glands. It is located just beneath the hypothalamus in the middle of the brain. If you have a fear of drowning, you can replace the ocean water, with ocean air as the salt will still be in the air OR you can pretend you are a mermaid.
It is best to start out with the minimum of seven breaths and work your way up slowly until you feel comfortable with the meditation. Too much, too soon, like a power cleaning won’t work in this meditation. Gentle action is what is called for. Also, you can do seven in a row: inhaling left, exhaling right and then change to: inhaling right, exhaling left. Each ‘set’ however, should contain seven breaths before changing the nostril side.
Open a window and let the fresh air in.
Sit in a comfortable position.
See yourself standing at the water’s edge of the ocean.
Begin to focus on your breath. As you breathe in, see a small gentle ocean wave move into the left nostril and up into the third eye area of the brain. Breathe out the water through the right nostril, along with any thoughts, feelings or old ideas that it may have picked up along the way, pulling it back into the larger container of the ocean. Do this for at least seven breaths, each one moving deeper into areas of the brain. It’s best to concentrate just on the action of the water. When you have done this for as long as you feel you need to, see yourself walk away from the ocean’s edge and look up into the sky to see a bird fly over you. Call out to the bird and hear its reply to you.
You can follow this meditation with some lavender oil placed on your wrist and inhaled or later, in a salt bath to clear and cleanse your aura.

We’ve heard it before. Think positive, don’t be so negative. Innately we’ve known that this is a good habit to get into. Now science & research are proving just how important it is. Studies are now showing how powerful prayer is for a person who is ill. Any self improvement guru will always work on improving your ability to think positively in order to manifest what you want in life. Religions teach prayer and the power of positive thoughts. Why?
Thoughts are things. What this means is that every thought and thus every feeling we have creates a real electric and chemical reaction in the body. Negative thoughts create negative reactions—causing more inflammation, acid, break down of tissue & fatigue. Positive thought create positive reactions—causing release of endorphins, improves digestion, regeneration of cells and healing. We think and feel 24 hours a day 7 days a week! That’s quite a workout for the body.
Have you ever stopped to think about what kind of dialogue you have with yourself every single second of the day? If you’re like the majority of people, there are more negative thoughts than positive. How many times are you judging someone or yourself throughout the day? How critical are you of yourself? Most people are their own worst enemies! How many times are you getting angry? Frustrated? Worry? Anxious? Fearful? How many times do you think how much you “hate” this or that? Your body does not know the difference between hating something other than yourself–it just knows the feeling of hate–which resonates though your body. And most of these thoughts run automatically. Like a silent tape recorder that never stops.
As if this wasn’t enough, this tape recorder saves & stores every experience in your hard drive—the subconscious mind. This is the same subconscious mind that is responsible for RUNNING your body! If the body is responding to many negative emotional stores, it not only wastes a lot of energy, increases toxicity & chance for disease processes, but also prevents the body from healing.
Positive thoughts & attitudes are key for creating a more harmonious mind, body & spirit into the future. However, identifying & clearing your negative “charges” of the past is also critical for exponential healing. The daily practice of forgiveness is an excellent way to forgive and release yourself from the past. Memories can never be “erased” so forgiveness empowers us to update the same experience with thankfulness & gratitude. There are 4 steps:
The physical body is an expression and response of the experiences of the past. If you want to create a lasting change in the physical body, change the choices you make today. Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique is an energetic & physical healing technique which recognizes the power of the mind & body. This procedure is designed to directly remove high brain interference from expression in the physical body. Once the body is functioning based on current, updated need, rather than a series of past experience, true healing can and will occur.
Vibrant health is one of life’s greatest gifts. Many strive towards this state of high-level wellness. This is where our whole being of body, mind and spirit is in balance and harmony. Energy, peace and gratitude flow as we feel connected to the present moment. Many consumers are seeking ways to achieve this level of health with the use of integrative medicine, a melding of holistic and prevention modalities along with the crisis care of allopathic medicine when appropriate, in order to reach their vision of high level wellness.
A friend of mine, Rev. Barbara Pescan of Evanston, IL once wrote:
We are more than our ailments, more than the sum of our addictions, co-dependencies, operations, scars and lapses. We are whole. It is an interesting conundrum that when we pay more attention to the health in our lives and less attention to the illness, that is where the healing begins – in refusing to let the illness determine the value of our lives. Find a way to act subversively today on the side of health. And may you find blessing.
Imagine individuals and our nation paying more attention to true health, rather than disease. Allow yourself to be a bit of a rebel and act subversively today on the side of your health, and the health care in our country. How can you do that? Embrace the new science that is based on an energy paradigm. When you see your body, your thoughts, your prayers, your world as energy, it opens up many new choices for health and healing. Within this new energy paradigm, the complementary, preventive and alternative modalities make sense for effective healing as well as for cost-effectiveness. It’s time for a health revolution.
Our current allopathic medical system based on Newtonian physics and reductionism (the science of breaking things down into mechanical parts, often into the smallest parts possible) is outdated. Yet it has been very beneficial for isolating factors which cause disease, and has created some pharmaceutical drugs and surgeries which border on the miraculous; but it is an ineffective match for chronic diseases. Drugs and surgery should rarely be used as the first choice in that physicians take the oath of Hippocrates: “Primum, non nocere (First, do no harm).”
Allopathic medical treatment, which is expensive and focuses on disease rather than health, also is often unsuccessful in healing the leading causes of death, especially chronic conditions which compose the majority of health complaints. In fact, failures and mistakes in our current allopathic medical system are now leading causes of death in the U.S.
The proposed plans to insure all Americans fail to recognize that they are still linking up a very broken and ineffective profit-based medical system to a broken and inefficient government that can easily be [and is] bought by special interest groups. The time is now to create a cost-effective integrative medical system that allows access to true health care. This new medical system would keep in balance the health of the whole person and the health of the system with reasonable profit. It’s time to be that rebel and act subversively on the side of health!
We are in a major paradigm shift that extends across the sciences. The new science of energy physics, a la Albert Einstein, proposes an energetic paradigm for the universe. The New Energy Physics give scientific credence to a new way of thinking and being in the universe: one that honors science and spirit, energy and matter, mind and body, emotions and spirit as part of the energetic, mysterious, ever-changing, dynamic, participatory whole.
The energy of thought/prayer/intention comes into this system. Matter changes in this participatory universe. The mind-body connection makes scientific and spiritual sense in this system. What opens up is a vision for a medical system based on the new science, incorporating the concept of each person as an ever-changing energetic whole of body-mind-spirit, moving towards greater health and wellness. Health is portrayed as a process moving towards balance, vibrancy and wholeness by way of awareness, seeking education, holistic modalities and growth for the whole person. Health and wellness can begin from the place where the signs and symptoms of disease have manifested—or before any signs of disease have manifested, thus preventing much dis-ease. The old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” rings even more true now.
Larry Dossey, M.D. has done a lot of work and research on the role of prayer and healing. He sounds the clarion call for a marriage of science and spirit. He teaches that in modern medical education, there has been a clear bias toward the logical, analytical, rational approaches to disease; and bias against any other approach deemed “right-brained,” irrational, religious or unscientific. But now the choice between science and spirituality appears increasingly artificial, even from a scientific perspective.
Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., was recently in Chicago and spoke on the topic of spirituality and healing. She has decades of work and research in the mind-body-spirit field. Many researchers who initially were intrigued by the mind-body connection, have been drawn more deeply into exploring the role of spirituality in health. Take notice of this trend of moving from body to energy to spirit in some of our popular physicians and researchers such as Candace Pert, Ph.D., Herbert Benson, M.D., Christiane Northrup, M.D., Bernie Siegel, M.D., Andrew Weil, M.D, and others. I have also noticed this trend in my own personal and professional process and practice.
The National Wellness Association reports that doctors are finding some surprising evidence that spirituality can promote health. And the shift to the wellness model has been supported by research in chemistry, psychology, neurophysiology, psychoneuroimmunology and quantum physics. So, let’s “act subversively today on the side of health.” And may you find blessing.

Something that I hear often is “I had another stressful week! And that’s just how my life is.” Many people wonder how they’re ever going to create more health while their lives are so stressful. On the very first visit we talk about how physical, chemical, and emotional stressors that the body cannot adapt to, can lead to subluxations, or interference in the nervous system.
The nervous system is what allows us to live life in the mist of all the stressors. The objective is not to get rid of ALL the stress in our lives, that’s just impossible. It’s to minimize as much stress as possible and make sure that our body is functioning optimally so that it can adapt to the stress quickly. That’s health!
You’ve learned which foods may create more stress on your digestive system, which nutrients may add to optimal function of the chemical body, come in for adjustments, drink water, etc. These are all choices that you’re making in your daily life. They are a part of the 6 Essentials of Health that we discuss in our Wellness Workshop.
What choices do you have when it comes to a “stressful life”? Many feel that life just happens to them. They feel as if they have no control over how much work they have to do, no control over what a jerk their boss is, no control over how their kids are going to behave or what’s going to go wrong next, etc. You’re absolutely right! You DO NOT have control over any of it. No one does. But what you DO have control over is how you perceive it and how you react to it.
At any moment in time you have the choice to feel, act, react, and be any way that you’d like. Making a choice can take less than a second. For example if I asked you to choose between a vanilla ice cream cone or a chocolate one, which would you choose? It took you a second to decide. If I asked you if you’d rather be miserable and angry or calm and happy, which would you choose? Hopefully most of you would choose the latter. And in THAT moment that you choose to be calm or happy, you ARE.
So, the next time you’re stressed, frustrated or angry, think about the power of your choice. If you decide to stay stressed & frustrated, that’s your choice—and that’s not good nor bad, it’s just a choice. No one is making you choose that, you are allowing yourself to be that. However, if in that moment you decide that you don’t want to feel that way anymore, you have that power to create a different possibility. A second later, you may have to choose again because you’re still feeling stressed, but that’s ok, choose again. Choose as many times as it takes in order to get yourself where you want to be. Of course, like any TOOL or exercise in life, the more you practice your power of choice, the better you’ll get at it.
When you choose to do something or be a certain way, at that moment you are that possibility. If you choose at that moment not to be stress but to be happy, then you are. If you can utilize this tool of choice, over and over, you will be creating your life second by second instead of being at an effect of life.
You can let life take you for a ride or live your life. Be at an effect of life and stress or be CAUSE in your life. It all begins with a choice. Remember that it’s as simple as Vanilla or Chocolate. If you’re daring, you can even choose neither and go for the Strawberry! It’s your life.

We human beings are complex and multidimensional. Often we live in limited and habitual patterns that do not allow us to experience our full potential. Healing is the process by which we bring more of ourselves and our inner truth into our lives. As a physician healer, I have worked with many patients to achieve healing, whether there is a physical illness, hormonal imbalance, or emotional issue that calls them into the healing process. We look at 5 aspects of ourselves that function simultaneously, making the fabric of who we are, and then work with each of these. When all 5 aspects are addressed and working together, we come into alignment, and have an opportunity to experience true well-being and health. The 5 Aspects of Healing provide a framework for achieving total health. They are:
1. Spirit
2. Mind
3. Body
4. Emotions
5. Relationships
Spirit: This Aspect is the core of our being. Connection to our inner spiritual self is fundamental to healing, and connects us with energy beyond our physical selves. When our other aspects truly and fully express our spirit, we enjoy health. If you are physically sick, or having difficulties, connecting with your spiritual self can bring healing energy into the situation. This is the beginning place.
Mind: We are often inundated with a stream of thoughts, or mind chatter from our waking moments until we fall asleep. In our culture we have been taught to identify with our minds, and what they say to us. We forget that we are not our thoughts, and that our mind and its thoughts are meant to serve us and not control us. Our thoughts rarely reflect our inner knowing or voice.
Furthermore, most of the mind chatter that runs through our heads is negative, worried, opinionated, and borrowed from other sources (parents, teachers, media, books). Much of what is on television is toxic—violent or sensational—and provides thought fuel for worries or negativity.
Habitual patterns of thought can become strong and recurrent and solidify into beliefs. These beliefs then dictate our life experiences.
We become what we think about. Our thoughts send a powerful vibrational message to the other aspects of our being directing how we function.
Body: When much of our time is spent in thoughts, we may not listen to our bodies unless we feel pain or discomfort. Even in these instances, we are not good listeners, and want the shortest method for getting the body to stop communicating with us.
Our bodies are our vehicles for carrying us through our life path and work. The body has a language and communication of its own, and when we listen to it, it gives messages of pleasure, pain, and metaphor.
Create health by becoming aware of our body’s signals, needs, and gifts. By listening to and nurturing our bodies, we gain a sense of pleasure and place in the physical world.
Emotions: Emotions can be very helpful to us if we listen to them. When we experience joy and inspiration we can be sure we are in alignment with our inner truth. When we are experiencing sadness or emotional pain, it is a signal that we are out of alignment. Simply, if we pay attention to our emotions, we can use them as a guidance system, alerting us to pay attention to what is serving us and what is not.
Sometimes we suppress our emotions, so that we are no longer aware of pain, but this also dampens the ability to experience joy and pleasure. On the other hand, we can get trapped in emotional downward spiraling which also blocks authentic connection from inner truth. In either case, by being observant, we begin to develop a healthy emotional balance.
Relationships: This Aspect explores how we as individuals interface with those around us, in relationship. This involves identifying and strengthening support systems in your life. At some times in our lives, we may not be supported by those who we think should be there. This is especially true in times of change, crisis, or illness when family and friends may want us to go back to how we were.
When we take the time to look at our relationships and support systems, we can then evaluate which relationships are supportive and which are not. We then consider how we might create more support for ourselves.
To bring alignment in these 5 aspects of being, try some of the following practices:
· Take an inventory of the 5 Aspects and ask “How am I feeling today?” Listen for answers.
· Meditation or prayer
· Gratitude—being grateful attracts more life experiences to be grateful for
· Choose your TV viewing, reading material, your conversations
· Get enough sleep
· Enjoy a massage
Whether you are experiencing a major illness or crisis, or just feel that there should be something more in your life, The 5 Aspects of Healing can provide a framework to help you navigate to a greater sense of health, well being, and peacefulness.

With the public smoking ban taking effect in all of Illinois on January 2008 – there are even more reasons to really quit this time! Below are a myriad of reasons to quit, tips to help you quit from a holistic perspective (how to integrate being a non-smoker into your systems, and replace the smoking habit!), and where to find support during this process.
Quit Smoking Today- 10 Strong Tools
By Liat (Scheffer) Ben Yakov, MBA, CST
Smoking is not just about some stick filled with tobacco. It has physical and emotional aspects as well as daily habits connected to it. Therefore, in order to quit smoking we must address all its aspects. If we neglect one of the aspects we will be in danger to get back to smoking or adopt new addiction.
Reasons: The first step is to understand why you want to quit smoking. If you don’t do it for yourself and your health, you won’t do it at all. Quit smoking is usually not easy, if you don’t find good enough reasons to stop this habit you will give up in the way. Women who know that smoking during pregnancy endanger their embryo, can stop smoking in a day. Make yourself a list of all the reasons you need to stop smoking for. The more good reasons you have, you will be more committed to the process.
Change the habit; One of the biggest problems with smoking is that you are already conditioned to smoke when waking up, drinking coffee, having beer, after eating and so on. Break these habits. If it is something you can avoid for a while, like drinking alcohol, do so. When you can not avoid the conditioned habit, like eating, try to go for lunch to places where it is forbidden to smoke so you’ll be forced to break the habit. Try to use cigarette stick substitutes; they will help you with the habit.
Awareness, consciousness; Usually you are not even aware when you take another cigarette. You must be conscious about your smoking; otherwise you will never be able to stop smoking. Move the package away from you, so you’ll have to make an effort to get a cigarette. When you have an urge for another cigarette, stop for a moment, notice your feelings, think why you want this cigarette, try to do something else, take a gum, drink water, eat vegetables or fruits, count to 30 and check again, do you really need this cigarette? Can you skip it this time? When you do smoke, stop all other activities. When you have to make time for smoking and don’t smoke while doing other things, you smoke less and change patterns.
Physical activity; Many smoking people are afraid to gain weight when stop smoking. Engaging in any kind of physical activity and sport can decrease the chance you’ll gain weigh when not smoking. Another great impact sport has, it makes you feel better, healthier and reduce your passion for smoking.
Emotional comfort; Cigarette can function as emotional comfort. Try to realize when you need to be comfort and find healthier comforts – bubble bath, music, dancing, good movie, talk to your best friend, cuddle with your love one or buy your self a little something (you basically save lots of money when not smoking).
Stickers and gums; Use nicotine stickers and gums to help you deal with the physical addiction. They are less dangerous than smoking, and help to deal with the addiction while changing the habits.
Healing visualization; Can you see yourself not smoking? Try to picture yourself as non-smoker. Try to smell the good scent you have, feel the healthy breathing, hear and see your family and friends being proud of you, imagine yourself getting old gracefully, having fun with your grand children. Use the visualization 3-4 times a day, when ever you remember, it will help you create the reality you want.
Baby steps; Don’t think you have to stop smoking for the rest of your life. Think of today think of the next cigarette. It is a lot easier when you don’t think about the next 100 years but only about your next step.
Support; Look for moral support whether it is friends, colleagues, support groups. Whatever you feel most comfortable with. Declare your will to quit smoking and ask your surrounding to help with your decision. Maybe engage a friend to quit smoking with you, ask the smoking friend and family not to smoke near you, ask someone you trust to remind you why you’re doing that and prevent you from smoking when you feel weak.
Professional help; Sometimes dealing with smoking alone is not enough. Maybe you already tried hundred of times to quit smoking and failed, maybe you feel you can not live without smoking. Whatever the reason is, you can look for professional help. There are many different practitioners and techniques you can try, one of them will sure fit you. When looking for a practitioner be sure he or she deal with all different aspects of smoking – physical addiction, emotional attachment and constraint patterns. Kinesiology is one of the techniques which well address all different aspect and deals with each and every one of them.

Smoking and the Mouth – More Important Information
by Dr. Ray Hatland, DDS
Many smokers overlook the damage smoking causes to the teeth and mouth. “A lot of people don’t understand what they are doing to themselves in terms of dentistry,” ChicagoHealers.com Practitioner Ray Hatland, DDS explains. “The most holistic thing to do to a body is to quit smoking,” he states. Tobacco stains, risks of periodontal disease and loss of teeth are just some of the many adverse effects of smoking on the mouth. Here, Dr. Hatland gives some good reasons to quit smoking immediately:
- Periodontal Disease - A collective term for the inflammation of gums, loss of bone structure and tissue in the mouth, periodontal disease can lead to the early and painful loss of teeth.
- Oral Cancer - Gingivostomatitis and Leukoplakia are both cancers caused by bacteria in the mouth from smoking. Gingivostomatitis causes painful mouth ulcers and sores that make it nearly impossible to eat, talk and eventually breathe. Leukoplakia is a tumor-like growth inside the mouth caused by a barrier the body puts up when bacteria from smoking enters the mouth. Both illnesses can be very debilitating and uncomfortable, and eventually, lead to death.
- Cosmetic and Apparent Effects – Even with mouth whitening toothpastes and home kits, diminishing stains from smoking is virtually impossible. Bad breath and the constant odor of smoke a smoker leaves behind are also unpleasant to the smoker and those around them. http://www.chicagohealers.com/interviews/rhatland.htm 773-338-4440

Holistic Smoking Cessation
By Gina Orlando, Certified Hypnotherapist and Wellness Consultant
Her four-session smoking cessation program has tracked a 91 percent success rate for those who completed the program using a combination of self-hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Techniques™, healthy eating and lifestyle changes. According to Orlando, “The trick in quitting smoking successfully is to reduce and eliminate all of the fears, beliefs, triggers and cravings associated with the smoking habit. Research shows that smokers have a higher rate of success when they use individual, one-on-one hypnosis to quit smoking.” Here are some of Orlando’s holistic methods to successfully quit smoking:
Hypnosis – All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. During hypnosis the person relaxes the brain waves where the habit lives and makes the subconscious mind available. The power of the mind allows the smoker to move toward their goal of being a successful nonsmoker through positive suggestions, healthful images and seeing themselves as a non-smoker. Using the power of the mind through self-hypnosis teaches the smoker several short and effective ways to calm themselves form cravings.
Emotional Freedom Techniques™ – This amazingly effective mind-body technique efficiently reduces and collapses the cravings, fears, beliefs, associations, triggers and stresses that are the major part of the smoking habit. Being clear of these, the smoker feels more calm and confident in becoming a nonsmoker forever.
Healthy Eating, Especially Breakfast – Most smokers have coffee and cigarettes for breakfast which give no nutrients to the body or brain. By having a protein fruit smoothie or some other healthy breakfast which is balanced in protein and healthy carbohydrates, the smoker can begin to support brain chemistry and blood sugar, and create a ‘non-craving’ brain.
Julie Murphy Casserly has studied the emotional connection between people and their money—their income, spending habits, and savings—for the past decade. And, for the last eight years, she has been working to build the wealth of large and small clients in her own practice. This experience allows her to offer people of all ages and financial status the benefit of her deep insights and comprehensive understanding of the interplay of the personal, emotional and financial attitudes and how they are linked. In so doing, she has been able to provide her clients with financial solutions that last.
Thanks to her hands-on experience, Murphy Casserly has developed a unique process that creates a bridge between the right and left brain, linking the left brain’s penchant for logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective thought with the right brain’s random, intuitive, holistic, synthesizing and subjective capacities.
Throughout the book, Murphy Casserly illustrates how one can learn to access, understand and, as necessary, transform one’s relationship to money in the most dynamic and empowering way in order to alleviate many of the money-based problems that are obstacles not only to wealth but also true happiness. She shows the reader how to get past what are often self-imposed plateaus and progress to significant wealth-building, all with a deceptively simple but highly effective change in those subconscious attitudes and inherited beliefs about money.
The Emotion Behind Money is laced throughout with engaging and relatable anecdotes from the author’s personal experiences, from childhood to present, and from the examples of others. Nonjudgmental and empathetic, Ms. Murphy Casserly’s voice is warm and engaging. Genuinely interested in the reader’s financial well-being, she clearly has a gift of natural insight, and can read people and their monetary situations instantly. In the intake or “discovery” process, she explains, “you have to lead people to uncover the emotional numbers first and then get to the tactical or financial numbers. Once you have clarity about your personal mission, vision, values and goals and what emotions are triggered underneath, you can begin to get into the hardcore financial planning details that involve your core assets and liabilities, and use these as a launching pad to create a vibrant new relationship to money that will take you where you want and need to go for the rest of your life.”
The Emotion Behind Money can change your preconceptions and deeply impact how to handle, attract and accumulate money, and, on an even broader scale, how to set your most cherished goals in life and to be able to recognize and realize your dreams.
Brief bio of Julie Murphy Casserly Julie Murphy Casserly is the author of a new book, The Emotion Behind Money: Building wealth from the inside out. The narrative is personal and compelling as Julie draws on her own history of an often conflicted relationship to money, which had its roots in her upbringing as one of 12 children, and her parents’ attitudes that money was in short supply and hard to come by. The book is also filled with relatable composite anecdotes based on the wide variety of individuals and couples she’s worked with over the past decade as a Certified Financial Planner® and expert on wealth accumulation and management.
The book is designed to be helpful – some might say life-changing – for people of all ages and financial status. Whatever the reader’s starting point, whether they are in the early, middle or late stages in the game, he or she will gain a much clearer understanding of their relationship to money, and, armed with that knowledge, be able to create a life of abundance. Readers will learn how to recognize their true dream life and the steps they can take to make it a reality.
Julie is a Chicago-based entrepreneur as well as an author. She founded JMC Wealth Management, Inc. in 2000 and now works with clients worldwide, from singles or couples just starting out to individuals and families with a high net worth. Many examples in her book had reached a crossroads or a major obstacle and needed help getting “unstuck” so that they could move forward without being burdened by a lifetime of accumulated misconceptions about money and wealth. The book is also a workbook, filled with exercises that allow the reader to slowly but surely uncover, understand and correct his or her own attitudes and unproductive patterns with regard to money and wealth accumulation.
Prior to publication of this book Julie was and continues to be a sought-after media expert on financial issues, especially relating to the emotional connection to money.
