Why Metal Fillings Can Be Harmful to the Body with Andie Pearson, DMD, CCST
According to the Franklin Pierce Law Center, research over the past decade demonstrates that the use of mercury fillings poses a potential health hazard to a significant number of the estimated 200 million Americans with amalgam fillings. Chicagohealers.com Practitioner Dr. Andie Pearson, DMD, CCST explains why amalgams or silver fillings can be detrimental to a person’s health. A combination of toxic metals is used in silver fillings containing a high percentage of mercury. These metals used in the dental filling have been linked to several different medical disorders. The symptoms can have environmental sensitivities, create an over-stimulated cardiovascular system or have negatively affected the nervous system.

“Your mouth is the beginning of your overall well being,” said Dr. Pearson. “It’s involved with every system of your body and in every part of your health. For this reason, it is very important to pay attention to what materials are placed in your mouth.”

The metals in silver fillings can also become energy disturbances. Dr. Pearson explains that electrical currents are formed, much like the ones in the heart when observing an electrocardiogram (EKG). The currents in teeth are much stronger than the body needs for nerve transmission. Dr. Pearson recommends considering the alternatives to silver filling, which are called composite restorations.

Dr. Pearson provides the following reasons why composite restorations are beneficial:
• If the decay has not advanced, the doctor can use porcelain or gold inlay.
• If the tooth is missing the dentist can use moderately large restorations or crowns.
• The crown can be all porcelain, gold or have both.
• According to Dr. Pearson, many people have chosen the non mercury route and have reported substantial health improvements.

Tip of the Week: More Than a Pretty Smile? Dr. Raymond
Hatland, DDS, Explains Why Your Teeth Affect Your Body’s
Health.

Straight teeth and a perfect bite prove to be useful in more than just a photo. Chicagohealers.com Practitioner Raymond Hatland, DDS, uses his dental practices to treat more than his patients’ teeth. Through research and experience, Dr. Hatland has discovered that good oral health is connected to the body’s energy system. He has had tremendous success with his patients by helping them determine how to deal with stress and restore balance to the energy system through oral health.

“The energy system affects every system, organ, tissue and cell in our body,” said Dr. Hatland. “We literally cannot live well without this subtle energy system working properly. It is also the great communicator, balancer and integrator of all of our body’s complex reactions and processes.”

The teeth play a key role in keeping the energy system’s channels charged up. Each tooth stimulates a certain channel, which is why normal chewing and biting is important to the energy system. Unbalanced bites, oral habits such as clenching or bruxing, infected teeth and mercury fillings can be disruptive to the energy system. These various situations can stress the energy flow in the channels and over stimulate or block the energy to its system. This can cause poor oral health and even emotional issues.

Dr. Hatland provides the following tips on how to positively boost the energy system through oral health:

• Heal holistically – Go to a knowledgeable holistic dentist or health care professional to find out if the teeth are a source of problems in the body.
• Kick the grinding habit – If a person clenches their teeth during the day or grinds their teeth at night they should seek medical attention.
• Physical fitness – Exercising daily for at least 30 minutes can benefit a person’s health immensely.
• Eat right to feel right– Keep a balanced, healthy diet.
• Find a happy place – A person should surround themselves with a positive social environment and friends.
• Keep a good aura – Conducting good work ethics at the office and meditating weekly will help de-stress a busy schedule.
