Naturopathic medicine is identified with a philosophy of life, health and disease. Fundamental to the practice of naturopathic medicine is a profound belief in the ability of the body to heal itself given the proper opportunity. This opportunity is provided within the Naturopathic Paradigm outline below.Naturopathic Paradigm:
1. Address the whole person
2. The body and the mind are interconnected
3. Emphasize achieving good health
4. Treat underlying causes
5. Take an integrated approach
6. Focus on diet, lifestyle and preventative measures
7. Focus on subjective information
8. The Doctor’s caring and empathy are critical to healing
9. The Doctor is a partner in the healing process
10.The Client is in charge of health care choicesHow do you see your services evolving over the next three years?
Continuing to participate in the evolution of how people perceive health and how unhealth is addressed in our country. The emergence of new diseases and the revelations that viruses are an underlying cause of many chronic illnesses is building the momentum behind awakening to the fact that a toxic environment damages our immune system and (re)discovery of plants as healers, an area that BerkanaWay embraces fully.

Benefits
What are the benefits/results people see?
Many clients express gratitude at the opportunity to really be heard in regard to their health goals and questions. We work at reaching the root of the issue so that true healing can occur, rather than management of symptoms. Since each person receives an individualized approach the outcomes can be quite outstanding. For example a child diagnosed with ADD, if the underlying cause is found to be a genetic condition called Pyroluria, which is addressed through nutritional supplementation, prescription medications with their side-effects may no longer be needed when this deficiency is balanced. The child regains a sense of self-control and can release the psychological burden of a label.
Clients suffering with a chronic illness like Fibromyalgia often have been using several prescription medications in an attempt to control symptoms at the beginning of our work together. Since viral infections are at the base of many chronic illnesses, improving the immune system response and basically following the Naturopathic Paradigm has given us great successes not only in reduction of symptoms and therefore medications but long-term remission of the condition.

Adults and children with chronic illnesses that aren’t responding or healing with an allopathic western approach. Those who have “normal” test results from an allopathic physician, yet they still feel unwell.
Those who want a true preventative medicine approach rather than an early detection approach. What makes you different/good at what you do?
At BerkanaWay clients are encouraged and assisted in creating a healthcare team that includes their primary physician, practitioners from BerkanaWay LLC and others in the community. Then utilizing communication as the key, a strategy is developed that facilitates rapid recovery and positive outcomes.

What to expect
Describe a typical session:
A Naturopathic session generally begins with a period of dialogue to uncover and gather information on the challenge the client wishes to address. Goals are discussed and client questions are answered. We continue the discovery process during a noninvasive physical exam that may include assessing accupoints, iridology, lymphatic palpitation, tongue and teeth assessment, organ and intestine palpitation, as well as more conventional blood pressure check and eye/ear/throat exam.
Recommendations for change/modification or further testing can be given immediately, though often in the case of chronic illness a follow-up appointment is scheduled to allow time for further research and compilation of a personalized protocol. How long is a typical session?
Initial appointments require 45-90 minutes for Naturopathic services and follow-ups range between 15-60 minutes.Massage, Reflexology, Hypnotherapy and Reiki appointments are generally 60 minutes.

Closing Comments
What else might someone want to know about you?
I have been intrigued by the plants since a very young age and enjoyed much time studying them while exploring the woods and fields around my childhood home. At age 10, I gained permission from my folks to rototill up part of our land to build a community garden for the neighborhood kids. We grew all sorts of crazy things, like watermelons (this was in Minnesota ) and giant sunflowers and a bunch of herbs. Later I dreamed of being a botanist and developing new miraculous plants, but as an adult entered the corporate world selling 3M industrial products like sandpaper and glue for many years. The plants eventually called me back and I’ve realized I don’t need to develop new ones, but learn more about what already exists. I am really doing my life’s work now and feel blessed everyday to share my knowledge with others to help them heal.
