Dr. Martha Howard

Thursday March 29, 2012 7:30 – 9 P.M.

Part of the obesity problem for kids and adults in the U.S. is a diet that makes blood sugar skyrocket after every meal or snack. This leads to insulin resistance, which leads to the “metabolic syndrome”–belly fat, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Learn about foods with a low to moderate “glycemic index”–a measure of how high a food makes your blood sugar rise after you eat it–how to shop for them and cook good meals with them. Tuesday, January 17, 2012 7PM

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is characterized by symptoms of depression, anxiety, poor sleeping patterns, and a loss of energy. The talk will include treatment options as well as preventative strategies for those not presently experiencing symptoms of SAD. Lemont Public Library – 50 E. Wend Street – Lemont, IL 60439
