Services

Describe your services:
According to traditional Chinese medicine, there are three forms of healing: healing through pain, as with surgery; healing through suffering, as with chemotherapy (or, in psychological terms, through grief); and healing through pleasure, such as loving oneself enough to take control of their own healing using natural therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and massage.

I use acupuncture as a conduit to help each patient facilitate their healing. I consider my treatments energetic interventions that seek to reestablish harmony and equilibrium for each individual within his or her unique environment. My diagnostic strategy includes a comprehensive history and intake; I consider all organ systems of the body interdependent and mutually interactive. Treatment protocol is based on the body as a whole, noting is excluded; nothing is analyzed or interpreted without reference to the whole; mind, body, and spirit.

How does your healing modality work?
Historically, acupuncture points were believed to be holes that allow entry into channels. These acupoints provide us gateways to influence, redirect, increase, or decrease the body’s vital substance, qi (pronounced Chee) our life force energy, thus correcting many imbalances. Acupuncture has been shown to stimulate the immune system. It also has affects the circulation, blood pressure, rhythm and stroke volume of the heart, secretion of the gastric acid, and production of red and white cells. It also stimulates the release of a variety of hormones that help body to respond to injury and stress.

How do you see your services evolving over the next three years?
My interventions in the future will also include Qigong exercises, meditation practices or perhaps Feng Shui suggestions to balance the energetic of the patient’s environment at work or at home.

Philosophy/Approach

Describe your healing philosophy:
The Chinese have a philosophy that I strongly believe in: We are an extension of our external environment; the only thing that separates us is skin. Our energy channels are like streams, if allowed to flow freely and unobstructed all life in the stream will prosper, if we put garbage and waste into our stream it will become blocked, knotted and tangled and disease, negative emotions and stress will take over causing disharmony and illness. Patients do not have to wait for the arrival of illness, prevention and cure should be made a part of their daily lives. Using a variety of modalities that embody a holistic approach I strive to offer my patients energetic interventions that seek to reestablish harmony. I encourage my patients to be proactive about their health.

Describe your style or approach:
My approach is one as a healer, teacher, nurturer and coach.

Why do you do what you do?
Because I get a great sense of satisfaction from helping people help themselves, love themselves and become complete and whole. It is just an amazing feeling to give someone relief from an illness that has been plaguing them for many years. I had a patient whom had been suffering from IBS for 5 years. After three acupuncture treatments most of her pain and discomfort had subsided. To have a patient tell you “I haven’t felt this great in 5 years, your treatments have helped me tremendously” is a wonderful thing to hear.

What to expect

Describe a typical session:
During your initial exam a full health history will be taken, with questions regarding your health, lifestyle, and any other information necessary for diagnosis. I will check your pulse, look at your tongue, and conduct the appropriate physical exam. This information is then organized according to the theories and philosophies of Chinese medicine in order to diagnose your specific concerns and any underlying factors that may affect your health. After the interview process, you may receive an acupuncture treatment, with sterile one use filiform needles. This visit ranges from 30 to 90 minutes.

During treatment, you may feel energized or a deep sense of relaxation and well-being. Where the acupuncture needle has been inserted, you may feel a vague numbness, heaviness, tingling, or dull ache. Sometimes people will experience the sensation of energy spreading from the needle. This is called the “Qi” sensation. All these reactions are a good sign that the treatment is working.

How long is a typical session?
The first session is about 1 ½ hours and subsequent sessions are about 1 hour.

Describe your office or treatment room:
I work in a holistic office setting with massage therapists and acupuncturists,. My treatment room is warm, inviting and comfortable; many of my patients have commented that they felt like they were in the comfort of their own home.

How should someone prepare for a session?
Patients should wear loose fitting comfortable clothing, I also request that patients have eaten at least thirty minutes before receiving their treatment.
