Describe your services:
I’m a Reiki Master Teacher and serve clients personally as well as teach Levels One, Two and Master Teacher Reiki. I’m a practitioner of Holographic Memory Resolution™ (HMR).

How does your healing modality work?
Reiki is a deeply relaxing and revitalizing therapy that stimulates the human energy field to encourage enhanced, integrated functioning of the body’s natural healing systems.

Reiki “jump starts” the body’s own natural healing ability. The fundamental principle of Reiki is simple: If you can get the body to relax completely, the body will heal itself. More than 90% of all illnesses are caused in one way or another by stress, and Reiki helps relieve the body of stress, allowing it to heal and rebalance itself naturally. One hour of Reiki relaxes the body as much as 3 to 4 hours of sleep at the deepest level.

Reiki helps rid the body of accumulated stress, thereby helping to prevent illness and maintain good health. Clinical studies show that Reiki boosts the immune system, clears toxins, relieves pain, and improves sleep.

For healthy individuals, Reiki is a simple, effective way to relax, relieve stress, and restore vitality. For those with acute or chronic health problems, Reiki is a valuable complementary therapy.

Holographic Memory Resolution™ was developed by trauma resolution specialist Brent Baum over 15 years, working with more than 11,000 trauma survivors from the Oklahoma City bombing, the terrorist attack on 9/11, victims of sexual abuse, torture and more. It is a body-mind technique that allows simple, easy access to past memories and the release and resolution of associated painful emotions, without having to re-live them.

How do you see your services evolving over the next three years?
As Dr. Mehmet Oz often says on the Oprah show, “The future of medicine is energy medicine.” Over the next three years and beyond, more and more people will choose Reiki, HMR and other forms of energy medicine as their first course of action – because it’s non-invasive, very inexpensive compared to traditional Western medicine, and it achieves results quickly. Energy medicine is focused on solving core problems, not just masking symptoms, by bringing a person into physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance. Increasingly, we are coming to understand that staying in balance means staying healthy on every level. The inevitable result will be a tremendous increase in the use of energy healing practices.

Benefits

What are the benefits/results people see?
Both Reiki and Holographic Memory Resolution are all about positive transformation in the way that’s right for the individual. Consequently, healing and empowerment takes shape in different ways in different people’s lives as a result of my classes. In some cases, my students will see immediate relief from pain or other progress with physical problems. Clinical research as well as my own experience shows that Reiki is very useful way for people with any chronic illness – including arthritis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders, and more – to manage pain and other symptoms, and generally improve their health. Some students who have cancer have used Reiki to manage nausea and other side effects, and to help boost their blood levels and immune systems to better tolerate chemo and radiation treatments. Surgical nurses have taken my Reiki classes, because they’ve found that their patients need less pain medication after surgery, they have less inflammation and other side effects, and they heal more quickly with Reiki treatments.

Other students will have new clarity about emotional blocks or insights about how to move through stuck areas in their lives – their relationships, jobs or family. Still others will discover a new sense of power for bringing dormant desires to life, or a new sense of courage to act on decisions they’ve been considering for a long time.

Every student comes to class with a conscious desire for forward movement in some specific part of their life, but usually there are deeper, soul-directed reasons why someone will sign up for a class exactly when they do, and they are pleasantly surprised when changes they never expected begin to occur. In all cases, my students discover a deep, rich connection to their ability to heal themselves and to be a healing influence on others.

Who is an ideal client?
For Reiki, an ideal client is anyone wanting a simple, foolproof way to manage everyday stress or a chronic or acute illness. People with very stressful jobs and lives find Reiki to be an ideal way to relax and revitalize. Cancer patients especially appreciate Reiki because it modifies or eliminates the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy, including nausea and fatigue, and strongly boosts the immune system.

For Holographic Memory Resolution, an ideal client is someone who can’t seem to get past longstanding blocks and move forward to achieve their desires.

What makes you different/good at what you do?
My passion! I love what I do, and that passion and enthusiasm invites my students to engage at deeper levels, and consequently experience very strong and powerful results.

Philosophy/Approach

Describe your healing philosophy:
I believe in the old saying, “You can either give someone a fish and eat today, or you can teach someone to fish and eat forever.” That’s why, after many years of maintaining an active healing and teaching practice, I’ve chosen to focus primarily on teaching. Reiki is easy to learn and phenomenally powerful. Once a person is Reiki-trained, he or she can give self-treatments as well as treatments to family members, pets, friends and co-workers. The more Reiki-trained people in the world, the more we can all take responsibility for our own health and well being, and the more health, calmness and clarity there will be in the world.

With Holographic Memory Resolution, the more we can clear the blocks and traumas of the past, the more fully present we can be to enjoy the opportunities life offers us moment to moment. We see them with clarity for what they really are, rather than from the cloudy, distorted vision of old hurts and resentments. I don’t know of another modality that creates such self-empowerment in an individual after just one or two sessions.

Describe your style or approach:
Inspiring, patient and thorough. A lot of hands-on, personal practice is involved in my classes, so that my students are completely confident about their abilities when they walk out the door.

Why do you do what you do?
I love it more than anything. From childhood, I have always been fascinated by the power of the mind to influence and heal the body, and by the impact of the “unseen” – energetic influences – on the physical world. When I first began studying Reiki, I saw the profound effect this simple tool had on my own life and the lives of people I love.

For example, early on in my Reiki career, my elderly mother badly broke her arm. Because of her age and her level of osteoporosis, her doctor said she could expect to be in a cast for 8 weeks or more. He asked her to come in at the halfway point, 4 weeks, for an X-ray and to check on the healing process. I gave her Reiki treatments every day, and at that 4-week appointment, the doctor was astonished. The broken bone was completely healed, and he was able to take the cast off – in half the time he expected! To help my own mother – someone I love with all my heart – be in less pain for so much less time was a tremendous gift, a gift we all can have and give to those we love. A wonderful footnote: After that experience, at the age of 81, my mom started taking Reiki classes with me, and became a Level Two practitioner.

Education/Background

Education/Training:
I received my B.S. from Loyola University , and studied toward a master’s degree at Northwestern University . I began studying Reiki in 1994 as a resident of Australia , then completed my Master/Teacher level certification in both traditional Usui Reiki and Karuna Reiki in Los Angeles , CA , in 1998. The direct lineage of my Reiki Master is Phyllis Furumoto. To become a practitioner of Holographic Memory Resolution, I studied with the inventor of the technique, Brent Baum. Additionally, I studied sound therapy, aromatherapy and Aura-Soma in Australia , and hypnotherapy at Boston Hospital . I studied Hawaiian healing techniques with Serge Kahili King over a period of 7 years. Over the past 12 years, I have studied extensively with many leaders in the field of bioenergetic healing, including Candace Pert, Joan Borysenko, Larry Dossey, Deepak Chopra, Elmer Green, and many others.

Years Professionally Practicing:
I have been practicing professionally for 14 years and teaching for 10 years.

Contributions/Publications:
I’m a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals, the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine, and the Institute of Noetic Sciences . During my residence in California , I was a member of the teaching staff of the California Naturopathic College in Del Mar, and I have been a guest lecturer at The Ninth House Center for Healing and Education in Boston , MA. In September 2007, I opened Equilibrium Energy + Education, a wellness center in Chicago ’s South Loop dedicated to energy-based therapies.

What to expect

Describe a typical session:
In a typical Reiki session, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table in a room with dim lighting and soft music. I gently place my hands in a series of positions down the front of the client’s body that align with the endocrine system and the chakras. I ask the client to turn over and continue specific hand placements down the back of the body. Clients with specific physical or emotional issues often feel immediate relief. All clients feel a sense of deep relaxation as well as renewed vitality and clarity.

A typical Holographic Memory Session begins with energy work, inducing a light meditative trance that allows the conscious mind to relax and that gently opens a very safe window into the subconscious. Guided visualization creates a self-healing process that reveals the history of a problem, pattern or illness, and resolves the attached emotions. Concluding energy work “locks in” positive changes to the subconscious, the body, and the energy field. Clients feel immediate relief from specific issues.

How long is a typical session?
A typical Reiki session lasts 60 minutes, HMR sessions are either 60 or 90 minutes long.

Describe your office or treatment room:
Equilibrium Energy + Education is a beautiful, soothing and welcoming wellness center on the mezzanine level of historic Dearborn Station. Because all the therapies we practice are energy-based, the energy of center is extraordinary. First-timers usually comment on how peaceful and relaxing it is simply to walk in the door!

How should someone prepare for a session?
Very little preparation is required for either a Reiki or HMR session, but specific instructions for preparation are given prior to Reiki classes.

Office hours/days of the week:
For appointments: Tuesday through Friday, 11 AM to 8 PM, and Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
Most Reiki classes are held on Saturdays
In case of emergency or for clients coming in from out of town, I’m happy to accommodate their schedules at other times.
